Why are you studying architecture?

"I think architecture combines the main aspects of my personality of creativity, purposefulness, and practicality. I traveled Europe and really liked their architecture there. I’m interested in so many topics, so I switched to environmental analysis and policy, and I'm gonna see if I like that. I might minor in history of art in architecture, and maybe down the line continue learning Chinese."
What objects in your dorm represent your identity or home life?

"I have a lot of pictures of my family and my friends. When I was in San Francisco, my mom and I were in Chinatown. And they had a bajillion of these cat figurines. I got this one because the characters written on it basically means safety in and out of the dorm. I have a postcard wall, and thought it was just a good way to bring back a sense of home because I have one in my room at home."

What are you struggling with?

"I've been missing my friends. And the food in Hawaii, and my family. But the good thing is I have a really close friend here at BU, and a lot of the people that went to my high school. And there's just these small little connections that I've been finding recently. Like oh, I know her because my roommate is friends with her. It makes me realize that even though BU is such a big school, you can still find a small community. You don't see the same people every day, but you know people from little connections."
College can be hard. Student Wellbeing provides support for Boston University students with resources, like the one below:

"Early on, it’s not unusual for students to feel a sense of loneliness, sadness, confusion, and preoccupation with thoughts about home. Homesickness can feel similar to grief, as one becomes separated from family, close friends, and familiar places. Your usual supports may not be close by to help you adjust to this unfamiliar environment, but knowing some tips for adjusting can be helpful in navigating this period."
