Why are you studying film/television?
"I just find it amazing how you can tell somebody's story through film, you know? Everything like what components make the film, the people in it, how they identify themselves. It’s giving a voice to the voiceless. But I question it at times, if Film and TV is the right direction for me. I know that it is going to be challenging, but I feel like I'm on the right track."
What objects in your dorm represent your identity or home life?
"My mom got me this pillow when I was buying stuff for my dorm. She's like, “it's my heart because you're taking it with you.” I sleep with this every day. I have some pictures over there, on the wall, with my family. I have all my plates and cups and medicine up there, and every time I look at it, I’m just reminded of back home."
What are you struggling with?
"Procrastination is a big thing. I feel like I can't do much homework here in my room because the bed is like right here, and I just want to sleep and forget about everything. I also miss home a lot, I didn't realize how much I did. I talk to my parents every day. I see people all over doing so many great things, and I’m like “Kerlin, what are you doing now?” But I’m okay, it’s the first semester, give yourself a break. I don’t have to know everything yet."
